Work stress

  • Mar. 26th, 2009 at 9:15 PM

FUCK! ARGH!

That didn't help.

Seriously though, my original schedule had alloted my a full month to finish development AFTER receiving the final deliverable from the design department. I am still waiting for stuff and the deadline is April 1, just three more work days away. There is no blame to be placed on anyone except ourselves for setting such an unrealistic deadline. But I don't want to miss the due date, this project was the main reason for my company to hire me. I'm not worried about losing my job if I'm late, but as everyone is aware of how large an undertaking this is, I would be a fucking superhero if I delivered on time.

I love my job, this is the most fun I've had at a job ever. But our department (marketing) has an enormous workload. For example, the website project was bid by several marketing agencies at 200k+, 6 months, and most likely with a team of 10 or so working on it. Instead they hired me, and along with our design director, we are attempting to pull it off in 4 months total. On top of that, and the reason I've had to wait for design deliverables for so long, the design director is also in charge of producing decals, apparel, ads, catalogs, and promotional materials. As much as I've been stressed about my workload, I sure as fuck wouldn't want to be him.

Anyway, I'm sure I'll get the last pieces I need to complete the project EOD Monday, and will work non-stop through Monday night, Tuesday and Tuesday night to deliver the site on Wednesday morning.

And that's going to suck. A lot.

edit: I'm not complaining. At least I HAVE a job.

It was good while it lasted

  • Jun. 3rd, 2008 at 10:28 AM

So my fairly sweet telecommuting job is over at the end of the month. I am not surprised, I haven't had any work for the last few months and have still been getting a salary. So now I have to find a new job. It will be good for me to find a job where I actually have to work, I have been getting pretty lazy. The biggest hurdle will be finding a job that is either close enough to Santa Cruz, or will let me telecommute 2 days a week when I have my kids. If anyone knows of someone looking for a kick-ass UI Engineer let me know.

Pumkin Carving

  • Oct. 26th, 2007 at 2:13 PM

Took the kids to my moms last night to carve pumpkins.

Tylers favorite part was the innards:

While Brandon was convinced that the pumpkins were for eating:

Hmmm, not bad... not bad at all....

I ended up carving two, one for me and one for Brandon, but the pumpkins were abnormally thick and my whole arm was aching by the time I was done. Overall a fun time, heres how they turned out:
